Yamazaki 35 Year Old

Yamazaki 35 Year Old. A sensationally rare and special whisky, the 2006 Suntory  However, the Yamazaki 35 Year Old was distilled in straight head copper stills between 1966 and 1970. It was then matured in Spanish sherry oak casks with only 200 bottles being produced.  Subsequently distilled at Japan’s oldest working distillery, this single malt whisky is one of the oldest expressions ever released by Yamazaki. Furthermore, created with liquid distilled in 1966 and 1970 and aged for at least 35 years in special 90-liter second-fill Spanish sherry oak casks, Yamazaki 35 Year Old was bottled in 2006 at a strength of 43% abv in very limited quantities. Also, each bottle is presented in a beautiful hardwood case.

Suntory’s flagship distillery, Yamazaki was founded by Shinjiro Torii in 1923.  Moreover, the town of Yamazaki was chosen to be the site of Japan’s first commercial distillery due to its very ‘Scottish’ climate, and it is an area where three rivers converge. In its early days, Yamazaki produced both malt and grain for Suntory’s blends, but the opening of the Chita distillery in 1972 allowed the company to focus on its single malt brand. It is now one of the world’s most desirable. The first spirit ran from the stills in 1924, on 11th November at 11:11 am. In Conclusion, this is one of the oldest expressions of Yamazaki ever bottled and is presented in a stunning hard wooden case.

Nose: Linseed oil, paraffin, camphor and oranges.

Palate: Very fruity and very sherried, oily on the palate, blackberries, strawberries, honey, and ginger.

Finish: Long with forest fruits and herbal tea.
